TIMARU, February 3,

An old veteran named Thompsen, who pleaded a colonial experience of eighteen years and protested his innocence, was sentenced to a week in the gaol for stealing a watch from a contractor’s clothing this morning while the Owner was at work.

The Education Board unanimously decided to rescind the resolutions passed in March last admitting the High School scholars to the public scholarship competitions. About a dozen candidates, half of them being clergymen, have been nominated by school committees for the three vacancies on the Board,
