MADA-GASACAR CATS.
Among the live stock saved from the illfated schooner John Watson were, two quadrupeds belonging to the steward, bearing tho name of Madagascar cats. They are at present located iu the old lighthouse, and more extraordinary -looking animals could net be imagined. Tho steward, during a visit of the vessel to Madagascar, obtained six of them, but since her arrival in tho (Vdonies four ef them have found early graves in the deep blue sea. Although offered no less than twenty guineas apiece, the steward refused to part with his pets, which are aa gentle as they are curious, They possess a head shaped something like that of a lemur, and somewhat similarly marked, but much smaller, the nose being more sharp. The body is exactly like that of a cat, but with fur like an opossum's. The feet and hands are those of a monkey, while the tail, though not prehensile, is also like that of a monkey, but beautifully ringed. =ssl iii !.!,isesnffgs
