THE AFFGHAN WAR.
[Special to the Star.] LONDON, September 26. A number of chiefs surrendered to General Roberts at Khulie. General Roberts called a council of war to consider the Ameer's statements and decide on the future movements of the British. [Reuter's Telegrams.] CALCUTTA, September 28. Yakoob Khan, Ameer of Affghanistan, accompanied by his son and escort, has reached the British camp at Kushi. He stated that Cabul was in a state of anarchy, and its gates closed against the British. A general advance of the British forces takes place immediately. A column of troops is marching upon Kelatin, in the Ghezil district. [Special to the Melbourne Argus.] LONDON, September 27. At the close of the wool sales this week over 38,000 bales were withdrawn. Crossbreds, good scoured combing, equal to 2d below closing June rates. In other sorts the estimated depreciation is from 10 to 15 per cent. _______________
