PRE-SESSIONAL UTTERANCES.
: Mr H. Feldwick, M.H.R., addressed, a well-attended meeting e at the Theatre Royal, Inyercargill, last evening. His speech was chiefly a resumd of the proceedings of last session i He reminded. his hearers of the promises he had made them from the hustings, compared them with his actions in Parliament, and submitted that he had kept faith with his constituents. Re the question of education, he took his stand as a secularist, but would not object to the reading of the Bible as a historical work, provided a conscience clause, was inserted in the Act authorising it: ' As for the temperance question, he would not support a Local Option Bill that did not provide compensation for the publicans. He would not be one to take away the license, from a well-conducted house. He himself upheld the. Ministry and their measures, but he would not give them a mere blind support. He was in favor ef moderate immigration, as public works and immigration must go hand in hand. A vote of thanks and confidence was passed to Mr Feldwick.
