..Some important changes are decided on in the personnel of the staffs ot the various steamers in tbe Union Company's fleet. The especial object is to enable masters and chief officers to acquire a thorongh knowledge of all the different services now worked by those steamers. Captain Garrard, chief officer of the Ladybird, has been appointed to the same position on the Ringarooma: Mr M'Fee, master of the Wellington, Is appointed chief officer of the Arawata; and Mr Anderson, late chief officer on board the Rotorua, takes command of the Wellington. Mr Irvine, chief officer of the Arawate, will be transferred to the Ladybird. After a suitable period has elapsed a further "general change about will take place."—Exchange. ,'lt is reported that the unsuccessful attempt to float the Hyderabad has cost already something like LIO.OOO, and that the vessel will shortly be sold by the Underwriters.
The ketch Franklyn Belle, with 736 cases preserved meats for transhipment, arrived this morning from Kakanul.
The brigantine Eliza Firth, coal-laden, arrived this forenoon.. She left Greymouth on the 20th ulfc.; had light S.W. winds for forty-eight hours, followed by light variables and calms until the 26th; passed Cape Campbell next day; thence light northerly winds to arrival. Shipping Telegram. Oamaru, May 2.—Arrived : Barque Beatrice, from Wellington, to load for Home; barque Prospector, from Newcastle, with timber. The latter experienced heavy weather and had to throw overboard her dec* load. WKH.IKQTON, May 2.—Sailed : Ladybird, for the Soutb. Passengers: Messrs Ferdge, Walker, Lilly, Harp, Miss Cane; and six in the steerage.
