Tho amount «f revenue received at the Custom House on goods cleared this day for consumption was L 302 lis Id. Trade ddring the week has been very quiet, a common occurrence at tho eud of the month. Prices of all goods remain steady. jMr Montagu Pym reports having this afternoon sold the whole of the forty sections offered in the township oHWestGore at prices ranging from L 5 toLl6per section. The total amount realised was L 402. The Labor Market. Mr Skene reports that work in town is plentiful; hut as 80~many are rushing into towii. wages are naturally easier. Harvest and threshing still occupy some attention. The heavy rains delay harvest very much, but will enable ploughs to start at once. Couples, shepherds, milkers, bushmen, etc., are constantly wanted. The demand is very heavy for girls in ail departments. "Governesses, barmaids, etc., if suitable, soon get placed. Still too many clerks ore offering themselves. Wages: Cooks, 20s to 40s; ordinary girls, 10s, 12s, 15s; upper do, 20s, to 30s; milkers, 15a to 25s ; ploughmen and shepherds, LOO to L7O • couples, L 75, LBO, arid LOO; day labor, and bush, road, and rail, Bs, 9s, and 10s; storemen and clerks, 30s to 60s per week. The Wool Sales. Messrs Cafgills, Gibbs, and Co. have received the following wool telegram from Messrs Helmuth, Schwartze, and Co., dated London, 26th inst.:—" The sales closed without further change ; prices aro as low as in June, 1870,? The quantity held over and withdrawn from present series comprised 29,000 bales. General state of trade is very depressed."
