Palmerston, ketch, 25 tons, Brown, for Owako River. The Wanganui arrived at Port Chalmers at 8.30 a.m. yesterday. She left the Bluff at 5.50 p.m. on Saturday; had S.W. and N.W. winds to arrival. She steamed up to Dunedin on the flood tide with the Star of the South in tow. An Auckland telegram in the 'Press' says:— "Bright Brothers have sold the Hero to Gyrice, Sumner, and Co, of Melbourne. Op tain Logan was offered the command of the Wakatipu, but declined to leave his old vessel. It is reported that a new steamer is being built in Scotland for the Union Company, and is to supersede tho Rotorua In the Sydney trade, and that pending her arrival a chartered English steamer will take up the running. Tc«d*y several of the vessel in harbor displayed their bunting, and, it being a C'UBtoms holiday, work was suspended at the railway pier, while a number of persons availed themselves of the cheap fares by the P«>rtobello and visited the township of Seatoun. She left the Manukau at 4.30 p.m. on tho 6th Inst.; had moderate westerly breeze until 4 a.m. on the 6th, when a thick fog sot in which compelled her to proceed under easy steam to Taranaki; called at Nolson, Picton, Wellington, and Lytteltdn, which lat'-er port sho left at 1.15 p.m. on the 9th; had strong N.W. winds along the coast.
