VOLUNTEER REVIEW.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—lt is a pity, on many grounds, that any difficulty should have arisen as to the proper day on which to observe the anniversary of H.R.H. the Prince of Wales. The volunteers could have paraded on Monday as easily as on Saturday, and would have gladly arranged for the former day had it been known in time that Monday would be a holiday, and more suitable as such to the retail merchants and the general public. To make the review a success it was necessary that the volunteers should begin to organise early. Negotiations had been going on for six weeks, arrangements were completed on 11th ult., and invitations sent to all the corps in Otago and Canterbury, Arrangements have also been completed for the billstting of the visiting 'companies; already some of the Canterbury and Otago men have doffed their every-day habit and donned their war paint, and arc now actually en voute for Dunedin; a few arrived last night. The public will, therefore, see that the volunteers cannot possibly postpone their operations, and surely it is not too much to expect that the citizens generally will second the efforts of the Review Committee to make Saturday, the 9th, a thorough success.—l am, &c., T. Chalmers Reid, Hon. Sec. Review Committee. Dunedin, November 7.
