Chkistciiucii, October 26.—The Lincoln Show was nob so great a success' yesterday as usual, partly on account of the small number and quality of the exhibits, and partly on account of the weather. It is suggested that the Ellcsmere and Lincoln Agricultural Societies shoiild amalgamate, as they are too close to have independent shows of a successful character.

After a long discussion in the Synod last night, a motion was carried that the reestablishment of church schools was very desirable.

The Cornish enthusiasm with regard to contributing to the funds of the new Truro Cathedral appears to have evaporated as last night not a soul turned up at the adjourned meeting.

Some of our volunteers intend to take part in the volunteer encampment to be held in Dunedin on November 9. A fire occurred at a boarding-house in Colombo street yesterday afternoon, but not much damage was done. The insurances on the building were L6OO, and on the furniture L6oo—the latter in the South British and Transatlantic.

At the Synod to-day a motion in favor of the Church of England people being their own insurers was carried. It was stated that L 1,500 a year might be saved by so doing. Waitaki Road Board.

Wellington, October 26. —A supplementary ' Gazette' issued to-day contains a proclamation declaring that the Regulation of Local Elections Act, 1876, is in force within the Waitaki Road Board district.
