THE AUSTRALIANS AT WELLINGTON.
First Day—Saturday. ! After we went to press on Saturday the remaining wickets of the Wellington team fell rather rapidly, J. A. Salmon (captain) being the only player who made a stand. The score amounted to 91, of which II were extras. The Australians went to tho wickets without loss of time, A, and C. Bannerman facing the bowling of Armitac-e and Webb, Quick scoring soon brought 20 up. When 35 had been reached, A. Bannerman was given out Ibw. I— lo- 35. His brother did not think the decision fair. A dispute arose, but it ended by Horan filling the vacancy. C. Bannerman was shortly after caught out, being neatly taken by T, Lockett, at point, off J, A. Salmon. 2—19—35. Garratt filled the vacancy, and gave the field a deal of leather hunting, Reran playing patiently. Garratt gave \V, J. Salmon a chance, which was not refused. 3 -7—47. Spofforth came in. He and Horan were doing well, when Spofforth gave Smith a hard catch, but it was safely held. 4— 6 —f fi Murdoch came in and joined Horan. The fielding of Wellington at this time being good, J. Salmon bowling maiden after maiden. Horan gave a cbanco to W. J. Salmon, and he held it. 5—28-78. Horan played a patient innings for his 28, Gregory cable in, and shortly after gave a chancn to A>mitage, but he refused it. Murdoch and Gregory kept their wickets till time w is called. Monday, January 28. The wrafher to-day is favorable for cricket. I’lay commenced at 12 15. There wjs bub a meagre attendance of the public on the ground. At 3 p.m. the Australians were all out.
