THE WATER SUPPLY.

The special meeting of the Council this afternoon to consider the following notice of motion by Cr. Walter That this Council, hnviug by resolution, aud after careful consideration, adopted the Silverstrraii as beiuff the best source from which tho City should be supplied with water, hereby resolve to give fourteen days* notice to objactow to appear before the Courcil and state n-tture of their otjsctions, in teims of the Public Works Act, 1576, part 2, clause 2i; and thnt immediately after the objections are heard, his Worship !,ho Mayor be emp>wered tj> apply to the Gov. r. or-ir-Council in terms of section 25, sub-section 1, of the Public Works Aot.

—was attended by the Mayor, Crs. Reeves, Walter, Thomson, Gore, Davidson, Roberts, Woodland, and Barr. At the outset the following letter from Mr Robert Wilson was read : Sir,—Yon can inform the Council (hat I am willing to soil my interest for all time to them in all water running through my property on the Lee Stream, say twonty-five miles from source of present proposed Bupplv, for LSO, said amount to be handed over to the Benevolent Institution. I am induced to make this offer through having observed in the newspapers remarks that I was pecuniarily interested in advocating the Silverstream scheme for an additional supply to the City.

The 14th of January was fixed as the date on which to hear the objections lodged.
