3A Brave Man Gone.

London, December 17.—Osman Pasha has committed suicide by poison. The supposed cause is the Moslem inveterate objection to submit to the operation of amputation. Hungarian Troubles. Pesth, December 16.—Eight thousand May gars have assembled here and deolaie that they will form a legion to operate against the Russians. A deputation from them wanted an interview with the Austrian Ministers, who refused to see them. A riot ensued. Tho Turkish Parliament. The Chamber of Deputies at Stambonl have elected a Christian as their President.

The Czar at Plevna. On his entry into Plevna, the Czar was received by 75,000 troops.

Tbe Filial Straggle at Plevna.

London, December 11, —There was great slaughter at Plevna. The Turks were compelled to surrender after a heroic struggle. In addition to the 40,000 prisoners taken, 20,000 of the garrison died of cold, hanger, and their wounds.

London, December 15.—The firewood at Plevna being exhausted, Osman, with his whole army, on the morning of the 10th, attacked the Russian grenadiers on the left bank, attempting to force his way through the trenches and batteries. Being unable to break through the opposing force, he tried to return to Plevna, which meanwhile had been, occupied by one of the Russian divisions. This division assaulted the Turkish rear and flanks, and after five hours’ desperate fighting, Osman surrendered his sword. He was slightly wounded, a«d was received with marked attention by the Russians. The Russian staff were aware three days beforehand that Osman intended to make a sortie, a spy having informed SkobelofF. Ihe Turks made two feint attacks westward, described as having been carried out with great fury, and nearly destroyed a grenadier regiment. An epidemic in Plevna hastened Osman’s sortie. He had three weeks’ provisions and a 1,000 cattle, but no forage or fuel. The surrender has been celebrated with great rejoicings at Bucharest and St. Petersburg.

War a L’ontranee. London, December 14.—1t is stated officially that Russia intends prosecuting the war. An early peace is considered impossible without British intervention. The Turkish Supreme Council of the State have resolved to continue the war to the last extreme. England and tbe War. London, December 14 —At a Cabinet Council to-day, it was decided, in consequence of' the fall of Plevna, to convene Parliament for January 17. Help lor the Turks. London, December 15,—The Khedive is sending an additional contingent of 15,000 troops to Constantinople. Tunis has promised troops to the Turks. The Russian Consul has left Tunis in consequence. Bosnia and Herzegovina. London, December 6.—Germany recommends Austria to annex Bosnia and Herzegovina. MelikofTa Army Stuck Up. London, December 6.—The bulk of Melikoff’s troops are detained in the snow between Kars and Erzeroum. Sulieman’s advance against the army of the Czarewitch has been checked. Turkey Accepts Mediation. London, December 15.—The ‘Morning Post states that the Cabinet have under consideration a circular despatch from the Porte intimating its willingness to accept mediation by the European Powers. The circular states that Turkey has been instigated by England to take this coarse. Erzeroum Threatened. A Eussian attack on hrzeroum appears to he imminent. The Brisish Consul has left the town, taking the consular archives with him. Servla Takes the Field. London, December 16.—The Servian army has received Drdera to cross the frontier, and the staff have gone to the capital.

Evacuation of Elena. London, December 16.——The Turks have svacuated Elena. Servia Co-operates with Rooznania. London, December 16.—Servia has declared war against Turkey, and will probably co-operate with Ronmania against Widdin. The Turks are aiding the conspiracy against Prince Milan.
