VOLUNTEER REVIEWS.

To tlie Editor. Sir,—ln your last night's issue I obseivo a local stating that the Government have decided not to hold the usual Colonial rifle competition this year, but that it would be willing to subsidise a meeting of volunteers similar to that recently held at Queenstown. In Victoria I believe that the Government annually grant a subsidy to defray the expenses of the Rifle Association Meeting of that colony. The same system could, I think, be adopted here with success, especially if railway passes were granted all persons attending such a meeting.—l am, &c, . . Snider. P.S.—-The above is written merely as a suggestion, and in order to induce discussion. Dunedin, August 29.
