The Georgii Minstrels conclude their season on Wednc-day next. A change of programme will be given to-night. Professor caimond, in the course of his lecture last night on “The Christian Evi dencc-s,” spoke these weighty words :»-“I am of opinion, whatever you may think of it, that if any nations under heaven became so profoundly and incalculably bad, like a moral black spot on the earth, the most merciful thing Hod could do would be to exterminate them. Intelligence of the death of Patorornu (Bartholomew!. Maori catechist at theHeade, reached town on Vrcduesday. He died some what suddenly and unexpectedly on Tuesday night. Ilis funeral was arranged for yesterday, when the he vs, Df Stuart, A. Blake, and W. Johnstone, of Port (.'Jnhners, accompanied !>y Captain Thomson, proceeded to the Is ilk. After the 00th Psalm had been read in M aori by Mi' Blake, the funeral procession moved to the church, Taiaiva and his sons being chief mourner;. Arrived at. the church, the c.di'm was placed in front of the pulpit, and Hr Stuart read a portion of 1 (.'or. xv., and appropriately addressed the nrxed andi -nee of stives and Hnropeans that nea-'r filled the building. Ho called on Mr Johnstone to engage in prayer, after winch Mr Blake took the Maori portion of the service, delivering an address to the people from I Thes. iv. 13, and referring in terms expressive of respect and affection to the deceased missionary. This service* during which ail seemed deeply
impressed, was concluded by prayer, and the procession then moved towards the cemef tcry. Here Mr Blake r sumed the service ny a prayer in Maori. Patoromu had been a preacher for upwards of thirty years, and he had been at the Pleads for nearly twenty years, but he had not preached for the last three months.
