The amount of revenue received at the Customhouse on goods cleared for consumption this day was L 1.767 2s 2d. The Customs revenue collected at Lyttelton during the July-September quarter was L49,11l (the largest ever collected there In one quarter), against 1*3,961 for the corresponding quarter of 1875. A very fair amount of business has been transacted during the week a_d several articles show a tendency to improvement in price. Candles ai efirm at last quotations. The arrival of the Julia F. Carney with about 2,000 cases of kerosene has given a well-timed supply of the Noonday brand. This addition to stock? will tend to prevent further advance in prices, which the previous short supply led to the apprehension of. Stocks are still low, and importers are asking 2s Id to 2s 2d, at which rates sales have been made. Although no absolute change can be reported in the price of brandy, it is firmly held at 7s 6d in- bulk and 31s in case for Hennessy's. The market is very bare of English and American Balmon. It is now held at 9s, and there is every probability that it will advance eonsiderably. Tobaccos are on the advance, sales of twist having been made at Is 7d for good brands. The Venus brand commands Is 8d to -Is lOd. Oats are very firm at 2s 2d to 2s 3d for good feed. Quotations for other goods are unchanged. THE SHAEE MAEKET. Messrs E. Mr Skene reports, for the weelr ending 7th Inst., that the demand for good, suitable single people is steady. Energetic men and women have little trouble new in getting a start. Station, faim, road, bush, See., are opan for jjood hands. Couples are still very quiet; their season is fast approaching. Farm trade and work rather slow, but the clearance for the Kumara makes it better for those left. Female servants are very scarce. With shopmen and clerks, it is the old complaint—too many for the place and poorly paid.
