MOSGIEL.
(From our own Correspondent.) tj, , March 8. .' Earners are busily engaged thrashing, stacking, &c. They will have very little cause to complain of the yield of 1875 if the weather continues fine for another week, as by that time “t to be safely stacked or housed. Ihe Silverstream channel contract will be completed shortly. By the end ©f the week the channel will be up to the bridge. Unless the channel is cleaned out from this point to the extent of another section, it is feared that the benefits to the land adjacent and the main road wm only be temporary. Larrikinism and its concomitants are developing here. Scenes occur which, unless checked, will ultimately lead to something serious. The services of the local policeman are °«en needed j but his district extends from Saddle Hill to Hindoo Hill, therefore we very seldom see him, and never when required, ihe mice playing when the cat is away holds good m this instance. The Messrs Christie’s are reaping a p-■jfchrir yesfc with their coal-pit* Forty tons percuem is very fair for an enterprise not twelve months started.
, l^ e J r “ lwa y passenger station is all but numbed, the goods shed is in course of erection, and cottages are arising as if by magic, to the, dismay of the oldest inhabitants, for. they' cannot see the beginning of the end—progress.
