Frank Hewitt, the English pedestrian, ran a race of 100 yards on October 3 with a horse, and came in a winner by about five yards. The race was for LSO aside. Four nuggets, weighing in all 2750 Z >. f were found on October 8 by a solitary digger in Ballarat East. The poor fellow was scarcely earning food for his family prior to this lucky hit, which yielded him over 14,W0 for one day’s work.
