MAYOR’S COURT.
This Day, , (Before'.his Worship the Mayor.) LARCENY. i The bearing of the charge ot robbery from a dwelling, preferred against Frederick Hoojc (remanded from yesterday), was proceeded with. The additional evidence was that qi Sergeant Coneys, who arrested the prisoner. He stated that on going to the prisoner’s lodgings on Monday he found hjm iii bed. He asked him if he knew anything about the articles alleged to have been stolen, and he said that he did not. On searching room he found them -, and in reference to the chain, he said it belonged to him for a length of time. For the defence, which was conducted by Mr Stout, the hypothesis wais set up that prisoner had been given the chain by the prosecutrix, and that there had never been a loss of money by the latter. In cross-examination, the prosecutrix made confused statements in reference to one or two particulars, but these, in the opinion of his Worship, did not justify him ihgrantihg the discharge asked for by Mr Stout. He would send the matter before a jury.
