MAYOR’S COURT.
Tins Day. (Before his Worship tho Mayor.) DRUNKENNESS. Isabella Patrick was charged by Constable Turnbull with being drunk and disorderly in Dowling street on Tuesday last. Constable Turnbull said he found the prisoner in a state of intoxication. She had an infant in her arms, and two little girls were at her feet. He called for a cab and took her to the station-house. Prisoner said she was not drunk, but suffering from weakness ; and Mr Patrick, husband of prisoner, applied for a remand, stating he was prepared to bring witnesses to show »he was not drunk. His Worship said, under these circumstances he, would remand the case till tomorrow. UNLAWFUL MEASURES. John Scott, upon the information of Inspector Nimon, was summoned for having two half-pint measures and one quart in his possession not stamped, contrary to section 65 of the Weights and Measures Act. D. Nimon, inspector, said he received information that the measures belonging to Scott were not correct. He ought to have been well aware that they should have been stamped, and he would inform his Worship that notwithstanding the public notice given, only two persons came forward to get their measures properly stamped. Mr Scott said the tinsmith from whom- he bought them said they were legal measures. His Worship said the penalty for an illegal measure was LlO, and if any future case came before him he would be compelled to fine. As this, however, was the first case which had been brought before him, he would dismiss it upon payment of costs and forfeiture of the measure^. The following cases were also heard and determined upon payment of costs and forfeiture :—Hector M'Gaughan, one quart and one half-pint illegal measure; W. Teunoch, half-pint measure ; Gavin M‘Naught, one quart, one pint ditto ; John Sraaile, one pint, one half-pint ditto; John A. Reekie, half-pint measure ; Archibald M‘Lachlan, one pint, one half-pint ditto j William Faulds, half-pint ditto ; James Muir, halfpint djtto ; Sydney Smythe, one quart, one pint, two half-pints. OFFENCES AGAINST THE BYE-LAWS. Colin M‘Donald was charged with hawking without a license, and was discharged with a caution. Thomas Thompson was fined 10s and costs for a similar offence. Ah Poe, a Chinaman, was fined 40b and costs for hawking vegetables without a license. Jas. Anderson -was fined 10s and costs. George Leckic was fined 2s 6d for permitting his cows to wander without attendance. D. Robertson was fined 10s for allowing two heifers to wander upon the Town Belt. John Woodward was fined 10s and costs for furious riding down King street, contrary to the bye-laws. .
