His mate (George Monroe) and a wages man named M‘Arthur, were wbhiu a few feet of the deceased when the fall took place, but were happily able to effect their escape. The deceased, however, from the peculiar position in winch he was placed—surrouu.led by the dchrl s of the tlrst fall, and by huge stones —was unable, though he saw the danger, to stir from the spot. From the largo (piantity of earth under which the deceased was buried, death must have been instantaneous.
