Education Board. — A special meeting of the Education Board was held to-day, to consider a communication from the School Committee of Port Chalmers, which was to the effect that they had been unable of themselves to decide as to the comparative merits of two candidates for the .Rectorship of the School. The Board resolved that as the certificates of Mr .Mackay, of Anderson’s Bay School, shew that he had ati ended the Universities of Aberdeen and Edinburgh, while the other candidate had famished no evi ence of having attended any University, and as t}?e Port Chalmers School Committee, had expressed the opinion that both were equal in point of qualifications, the Board felt bound bound by its resolutions of July 15, 1860, to appoint Mr Mackay. The resolution referred to is—“ That in fhe opinion of the Board gentlemen who have attended a University should acterls p&ribua be preferred to the appointments of head-masters of Grammar Schools.” Princess Theatre. —The drama of “Frederick,” and “The Grand Duchess” wore repeated last night. We would again remind our readers that the po formances tonight are for the benefit of Mr Whitworth. We understand' that Mrs H. Jackson was suddenly indisposed this afternoon, and that in consequence the first piece chosen for representation to-night will have to he changed, the comedy of “ The Buckle of Biill’.-mts ” being substituted for “ Helping Hands.” In order to till up the bill, and as a special attract on on the occasion, Mrs Howar I and Miss Nyo at once came forward and offered to dance a pas d.e deux between the piece*, of which offer Mr Whitworth gratefully availed himself.
