BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.
(from our own correspondents.) Wellington, Wednesday. The Otago Loan Bill was thrown out on a second reading of the Legislative Council, by a majority of 15 to 5. Intelligence has been received in Auckland, from reliable authority, of important information having been received through Native sources. A Native had come into one of the frontier stations, and reported that Te Kooti had attacked the Friendly Native settlement situate near the head of the Whanganui river, and the assailed party had made a determined resistance, repulsing Te Kooti’s forces, and inflicting upon them a loss of thirty killed. Report states that Te Kooti retreated after this repulse. He ascribed his defeat to the anger of Atua the Hau-hau God, which he alleged he had drawn upon himself by attempting to deceive the Waikatos.
