To the Editor of the Evening Star. Sir, — A letter appeared in your last evening’s isme signed by one John S’mosnn, in which he states that he wants the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, T will therefore ask him two “ questions ” which might throw a great amount of light on the subject he assumes to h;£Ve taken such an interest in, viz., the “ Gas Question. ” Firstly—Why did you not answer the following questions as ashed by “ Fair Play ” in a letter published in the 1 'imes of Monday, Aug. 23, 1869, viz. : 1. Was the advertisement calling the mcetinu at the Po ytechnic Kali on Monday, Aug. 16, 1869, written by Mr Hutchison ? 2. If not by Mr Hutchison, by whom ? 3. Is the signature to it—J. Simpson—genuine or a forgery ? 4. Did Mr Simpson authorise any one to sign his name (Simpson) to a document he had nt seen.

5. Did Mr Stephen Hutchisou pay the expenses of its insertion ? 6. If not, who paid it ?

The second question I should like to be enlightened on is —ls it true that your brother-in-law is in the employment of Mr. Hutchison, the present lessee of the gas works. —I am, sir, &c., One of the Jewish Faith,
