Our Melbourne advices by the Gothenburg are to the 19th inst. The Argus of that date reports In the import markets to-day, no business of a special character has been made public. In breadstuffs, we observe amongst the millers an evident uneasiness in regard to supplies, and notwithstanding that higher rates have been paid for some time past for wheat than are warranted by the price of flour it is feared that still higher figures will have to be offered before supplies can be drawn out on a scale to meet requirements. A line or bushels Tasmanian wheat changed hands this afternoon at a higher price than has yet been touched for this description. Best samples ot Victorian realise for small lots 6s Id to os 2d. Flour is quitted at Ll3los. The improved feelin" in regard to oats is confirmed by the sale of 3 100 bags (12,400 bushels) Tosmanian, sold on private terms ; quotations are very firm at from 4s to 4s 3d. Maize is in very brisk demand at 4s Id to 4s 2d. A considerable parcel of gunnies, an entire shipment, was cleared off at a concession on our ordinary quotations of 3d. The offerings of timber by public auction comprised red and white Scotch flooring, exPaiisian and Juliet; T. and G. flooring, ex Staffordshire; sawn kauri pine, ex Moa ; cedarlogs, ex Pioneer and Schoolboy ; and hardwood, ex Lady Emma. At the bonds, sales of tobacco were made as followßarrett’s twist, all faults, if any, realised Is 3;,hl ; aromatic pounds brought G|d ; half-pounds, Bfd to 10J ; bars, 7 :jd to 8:/ d. In liquids, we learn of the disposal of equal - to 160 quarter-casks pale and dark Marrett's brandy, on terms withheld. A full figure is stated to have been obtained. Unsatisfactory rumors regarding the position of a Launceston firm engaged in the agricultural produce trade have been circulated in the city.”
