We learn from the Grey River Argus that^

The -Customs revenue collected ;at Greymouth for the week ending the 12th instant, was £1,375 19s Bd. Five small nuggets of -gold have been exhibited at Grey town, said to have been obtained “ ten miles up the river.” Efforts are being made in Greymouth, .to erect a church "there by subscription. A complaint is made of the wretched accommodation afforded by the Courthouse, in Greymouth. M Edith Palmerston, after being highly successful at Hokitika, has appeared with equal success •at Greymouth. A subscription has been made to procure a fire-engine, for the better security of the town of Greymouth. From the same journal we take the following Hokitika intelligence : The husband of the woman Stewart, whose body, we mentioned in a 'recent number, had been found on the beach at Hokitika, has been committed to take his trial for the murder of his wife. Another exodus from Otago to the West' Coast ’is spoken' of. The Okarita diggings are turning out well There are beach workings nearly all the distance between Okarita and Bruce Bay. A daily evening paper has appeared at Hokitika, called the Evening Star; so that Hokitika has now two daily journals —ohe published in the morning, the other in the evening. The representatives of Westland, in the Canterbury Council, endeavored to get a vote of £SOO for Mr Hunt, the discoverer of gold in Westland. The Government of Canterbury would only consent to put down the sum‘of £2OO for Mr Hunt. The theatre erecting at Hokitika will be ready for opening in two or three weeks. It will be a commodious and handsome building. Many persons doubt the success of the speculation.
