The West Coast Times of the '23 rd inst., says : —Business during the past week has been rather dull with wholesale houses, but storekeepers have had an average share. A considerable amount of goods have been offered by auction, but bulk withdrawn for better prices, small lots being allowed to pass to test the market. Flour has a downward tendency, and may now be quoted at £34 per ton for first Adelaide ; Chilian, £26 to £27 per ton. Oats dull of sale, 7s to 9s per bushel. Chaff has been sold at £25 per ton —market well supplied. Hams and bacon are scarce ; Sinclair's and other good brands find purchasers at Is 10d for hams, and Is 8d for I aeon ; Colonial and inferior qualities dull of cale. Butter has been in supply equal to the ■demand ; good Wei ington is worth 2s 2d per lb. Tea has met with a steady demand. Sugar not much enquired for. Cheese is scarce, and worth from Is 8d to Is lOd per lb. Wines and Spirits are dull of sale, with the market fully supplied. B enessy's pale brandy is worth 9s to 9s 6d per gal. in bond. Otard's and other good brands a shade lower. Geneva (JOK.Z), 17s 8d to 18s 6d; Old Tom, £2 per caue. Wines, port and sherry, meet with fair demand at last quotations. Bulk Beer (English), is slow of sale, colonial having the preference. Bottled Ale and Porter, best brands 18s to 20s pei doz. ; outside brands 14s *o 16s per dozen. Oilmens' stores are in good supply, realising fair prices. Dried fruits are scarce, and a parcel in the market, at present, would sell readily. ,New arrivals during the week were few, and we anticipate an improvement in prices and a reduction in stock.
