RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
THIS DAY. (Before the Hon. A. C. Strode, R.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Jas. Cochrane, charged with this offence, was fined 20s, with the usual alternative. THEFT. Gilbert M'Coll was charged with stealing one horse cover and one sack, the property of George Shand ; one monkey-jacket, tobacco-pouch, and pocket-book, the property of Arthur Ford, in the employ of Geo. Shand ; and one Tweed coat, the property of Robt.-Wilson, in the same employ. * The articles, which had been left in the stables of the prosecutor yesterday afternoon, were found, "by Sei-gt. Sutton, at an early hour this morning in the prisoner's possession. Upon being asked how he got them, he replied they were given to him by a person on Maori Hill. The Magistrate sentenced him. to four months' imprisonment, with hard labor. THREATENING LANGUAGE. Margaret Haffeuger, charged with using threatening language to her husband, Joseph Haffenger, was bound over to keep the peace for three months in her own surety of £2O, and two sureties of £lO each.
