MINING INTELLIGENCE.

The Maori Point correspondent of the Wakatip Mail , writing on the 16th instant, Bays :

The working at the reefs are progressing favourably with all parties. The Homeward Bound Company are crushing night and day ; Miller, Pinkerton, Spooner and party are making preparations to put in a main drive on a level with their previous workings. The sluicing companies at Skipper’s are all busy at work except the Telegraph, whose framing for conveying -water across the creek was completely blown down on Monday last by the gale, which was unusually severe, and carried everything before it into the creek below. It is a heavy loss, but they intend to commence erecting it again at once. This disaster, however, has prevented the possibility of their sluicing foi some weeks to come. The long continued floods have done much damage to several claims in Skipper’s Creek, by destroying some tailraces. The Enterprise and other companies will be some time repairing damages after the flood subsides.

At the right and left band branches of the Shotover things are improving, as also at the Sandhills. Some fresh terrace claims have been taken up, and the owners are busy bringing in water to work the same. As a good indication that the population intend to settle permanently in this neighborhood, I may mention that many of the miners are forming gardens, while others are getting fowls or cattle.

In the river much damage has been done to the various works by the floods, which have carried away head-dams, wheels, &c. All work is suspended for a time.
