"We learn from tlie Wahatvp Mail that raining affairs in the Lake District are in a satisfactory condition. At the Big Beach all parties are ■well into "work. On Wednesday the large company opened some splendid ground, which is in the form of a bar, and the extent of it is not yet proved. Independent of this, however, the company have ground that promises to return good wages for years. The Wheels or smaller company on the Big Beach have also from the commencement been making handsome wages out of their ground.
Accounts from the reefs at Skipper's are good. Jones' party (Scandinavian) are busy crushing-, and a large cake of amalgani may be expected in a few days. The Prince of Wales are getting out some line stone. The reef now being worked is about ten feet wide, and the gold well mixed all through it. Two shares were sold in the claim this week at good figures. Mr Wright, mining surveyor, has been at Skipper's laying off the various leases applied for.
