MUSIC IN ENGLAND
I Mr. Maxwell Fernie, -the well-known | organist and choirmaster, has been overseas for several years in the Army and has given music lectures and recitals in camps and hospitals. He hasnow been demobilised in London and is staying on to further his musical studies at the London University and Academy of Music. He is organist and choirmaster at a church in Marylebone, and through this connection has access for practice on one of the largest church organs in London, in the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Mayfair. Whilst on leave recently he travelled over England and Scotland and visited many well-known cathedrals, -including Salisbury, where he met Sir Walter Alcock, who is one of the finest organists in England. He says the music lover in London is well catered for and is never at a loss to hear good , music. The promenade concerts at the Royal Albert Hall are always crowded. As well as attending recitals and concerts, Mr. Fernie has also performed at some at the Victoria League headquarters and New Zealand House functions, as well as giving a number-of organ recitals at King's College. -
