TAKANINI TRIALS
SWEET BISCUIT SPRINTS
(Special to "The Post.") ■TAKANINI, This Day
Hitting out in a style reminiscent of her best, the Broiefort mare Sweet Biscuit gained further admirers for the Railway Handicap by an attractive trial over five furlongs at Takanini yesterday morning. Going with Cambria, she was always travelling the better to conjfortably defeat her companion in 1.1. Sweet Biscuit is to be ridden in her coming engagement by J. Bagby, and she. should be right in the firingline at the finish* -"■
Balmacara strode over six furlongs in 1.16, and while he did not show quite the same dash as has characterised his spring efforts, the gallop was regarded as a very satisfactory one, being the best recorded over the distance. Trainer W. F. Clifton was non-com-mittal as to whether Balmacara would definitely run in the Railway Handicap and stated that no rider had been engaged for him. However, a decision will be made later in the week.
The juveniles Beau le Havre and Majesty were let off with easy tasks, but Floral Dance hit out with plenty of freedom in her half-mile gallop, which she accomplished in 49sec. She is to contest the Foal Stakes, in which she will be ridden by T. W. Green. Super .Vaals is still an absentee from the track and his programme at Christmas is indefinite. E. Pope states that he is responding to treatment and may yet get to the post. No exacting tasks were asked of Landveyor and Sir Bian after their race on Saturday. There is a certain amount of optimism associated with Landveyor's chance of going one better than last year. « . Beau Dink was an absentee from the track and has not been accepted for in the Cup. It is intended to race him in the A.R.C. Handicap on the second day all going well. While in most, cases their actual engagements have not been- announced, several riders will be* making the trip to New Plymouth after riding at Ellerslie on Boxing Day, and these will include E. V. Dye, C. Jillings, and G. Hughes. They will return for the second day at Ellerslie. Jillings's mounts at Taranaki are Lady Mamaeroa, Dink's Own, Swift Draw, Maida Vale. Riding engagements for' the first day of the Auckland Meeting include: W. J. Broughton, Longsword, Karachi, Yusuf; H. N. Wiggins, Expanse, Kings Pride, Royal Merit, Majesty, Supervision: T.--.W.
