HIGH TREASON CHARGE

Alleged to have fought with the Adolf Hitler Division on the Russian front. Thomas Hellsr Cooper, aged 28, a clerk, of Brook Green, Norfield. made his second appearance at Bow Street, charged with high treason.
The prosecutor said Cooper was born in London of an English father and a German mother. He went to Germany in July, 1939, and acted as a tutor until February, 1940, when he enlisted in the Waffen SS. After fighting on the Russian front, he was sent to Genshagen prisoner of war camp, which apparently was used as a propaganda centre for British prisoners. According to witnesses he there showed himself to be anti-Bri-tish and anti-Russian at .first, but after D Day new light appeared to have dawned and Cooper ?aid he had been a fool, that England would win and th.-'t Germany would lose.
The accused was further remanded until December 2(1.
