DESTRUCTION OF CYCLOTRONS TOKIO, November 28. General Mac Arthur's headquarters has stated that the decision to destroy the Japanese cyclotrons, which was strongly condemned by scientists, was not made by General Mac Arthur, but was specifically ordered by higher authority. The occupation officers merely carried out the instructions. The reason for the order was apparently that the Japanese were not to be permitted to engage in research in any field of instrumentalities dealing with war. The Associated Press points out that General Mac Arthur's orders can come only from Washington.
