State Department officials said that investigation of the list of 9000 Germans living in Spain showed that at least 1000 are former Nazi agents. The list is still being checked.
Furthermore, German documents amounting to thousands'of pages found in the Reich are being analysed to ferret out the details of the extent to which Franco collaborated with the Axis.
An official said the documents merely underline the notorious fact that Franco collaborated with the Axis and also indicate that Franco did not join the v/ar with Hitler and Mussolini because of Allied pressure and Spain's internal weakness.
The official added that American broadcasts directed to Spain at presented include editorials and other matter critical of the Franco Government to impress on the Spaniards the United States' view of Franco.
