SALE OF PETROL
EXTENDED HOURS WANTED
P.A. AUCKLAND, This Day. A suggestion that the possibility of installing slot machines for petrol, such as are in use in other countries, ishould be explored, was made at a ! meeting of the council of the Auckland Automobile Association last evening. Mr. H. M. Alder said the motor industry would be pleased to give a 24----hour service at petrol stations, but the labour union would not agree to it. [However, extended hours were likely to be introduced ' if the Government agreed to amend the regulations. It is possible that a system would be organised to allow certain petrol stations to be open until 11 p.m. six days a week. ' . Mr. R. E. Champtaloup said that motorists often needed to obtain petrol on .Sundays or after hours, and it could be arranged for a chain of stations to remain open throughout the country if the trade gave its cooperation. Mr. Claude Moses said that competition to provide better service for motorists was needed, and the time for the restrictions was past. The president, Mr. F. G. Farrell, hoped that the Government would make more petrol available over the holiday period to allow motorists to go further afield.
