USE OF PENICILLIN

Rec. 12.50 p.m. CHICAGO, Nov. 14. The American Medical Association reported the discovery of a successful seven-day treatment for scarlet fever, by which 10,000 units of penicillin are injected into the muscles eyery three hours, eliminating the germ which causes infection from the nose and throat within 48 hours. Two Boston doctors who made the discovery said that the results are only tentative, because of the small number of cases treated, but that clinical results suggested that muscular treatment might minimise and even eliminate late complication involving the [ears, heart, and joints, and dangerous : damage to the kidneys
