FOR WAIKATO
SWIFT QUARRY DOUBTFUL
(Special to "The Post.")
TAKANINI, This Day,
The nervous Chief Robin, who is to contest the Waikato Guineas, was responsible for an excellent trial at Takanini this morning. He finished half a length in front of White Blaze at the end of six furlongs in 1.15 2-5. In spite of the fact that White Blaze is not a good track worker, Chief Robin's effort was most encouraging. The best sprint of the morning was that by Black Ace, who ran four furlongs in 48 2-ssec. He was unlucky in the sprint at Ellerslie and would only have to repeat his track work to take a lot of beating on Saturday. Balmacara ran an easy five furlongs in 1.4. Other Waikato candidates to please included Jovial Song, five furlongs in 1.2; Night Messenger, three in 37sec; Brown Velvet and Jenny Wren, four in 52 2-ssec; Bronya, five in 1.4 easily; and Old Scot and Waiting, five in 1.2 2-5. It is reported that Swift Quarry is not a certain starter in the big event. However, should he run the Foxbridge gelding will be ridden by T. W. Green, who will also ride Lo Zin.
Further riding engagements announced are:—B. Markwick, Whitford Queen, Mr. Cute; B. George, Furioso, Royal Glory, Raphael; G. Hughes, Chief Robin, Esmonde; and C. Leatham, Black Ace, On Time, Jovial Princess.
