FIRST CLASH

REBELS AND BRITISH

CRISIS IN INDONESIA

LONDON, October 28,

A Dutch report from Sourabaya says there has been fighting for the first time in Java between Indonesian Nationalists and British Forces. Indonesians fired on British and Indian troops because of resentment over Allied orders to give up arms.

The British commander in Sourabaya has ordered all Indonesian Nationalists to evacuate the dock areas, the naval base, and the i seaplane base. The Netherlands Government information service announces from Batavia that the Nationalists have been told where and when the Netherlands Governor-General will receive them. In comment upon a report from The Hague, it is stated that there is no question of any orders for the Gover-nor-General to open negotiations with the Nationalists.
