GETTING RID OF NAZIS

WASHINGTON. October 27.

General Mark Clark, commander of the American zone in Austria', has been ordered to repatriate all Nazi Germans, eliminate Nazi influences, and ensure the reconstruction of Austria as a free, independent democratic State. The directive, from the joint Chiefs of Staff, follows the lines of the directive on Germany handed to General Eisenhower earlier.

The New York "Herald Tribune" points out that the directive orders General Clark to "search out, arrest, and hold Hitler and. all other persons who participated in the planning or carrying out of Nazi enterprises resulting in atrocities and war crimes," indicating that the United States Government believes Hitler is still alive.
