HELP FOR MOTHERS

Sir, —A much-discussed question at present is the problem of domestic help. Even the men are taking a lively interest in the subject,, but it naturally was the women who first realised the great need, when in 1919 they met to \ discuss the question and as a result "The Mothers' Help Society" was inaugurated, with the deep approval of the late Sir Truby King, who, besides stressing the fact that mothers on returning from the maternity home should be relieved of household duties for a short period, also; expressed his approval of some relaxation being given, "even if it was only a game of bridge." Naturally, during the war, when so many women were employed in essential work, it has been found difficult to secure a full staff. As the demand for service is great at the moment, it is hoped that this will be overcome in the near future.
