GOLDEN SHADOW WINS

TROTS AT TRENTHAM

CLASSIC TO SIR MICHAEL

A very large crowd witnessed some exciting racing at the Wellington Trotting Club's Spring Meeting at Trentham on Saturday, the high light of the day being the contest for the chief event, the Sir Thomas Wilford Memorial Handicap, in which the moderately-supported Golden Shadow gained the decision in a blanket finish. Besides driving Golden Shadow to victory, the Christchurch reinsmari R. Young won two other races during the day. Sir Michael proved himself the best three-year-old by decisively defeating his better-fancied rivals in the Wellington Stakes. Backers were fairly well on the mark, and although only one first fancy was successful they were in the money on five other occasions.
