OPEN-AIR BOXING

An open-air boxing contest of Dominionwide interest will bo staged at the Tetone Recreation Ground on Saturday afternoon. Roy Stevens (Auckland) is to meet Bos Murphy (Hutt Valley) for a purse of £200, the bout being scheduled for 10 three-minute rounds. Both boxers have excellent records. Murphy has had eight bouts for seven wins, including a second-round knock-out of Fred Southee. a middle-weight, while Stevens lias had eight bouts for six wins, one of his defeats being by Cliff Hanham, the middleweight champion. A special programme of amateur bouts will commence at 2 p.m.

The bout arranged for the Wellington Town Hall next .Monday between Joe Collins (ralmerston North) and Alf McMullan (Petone) will not take place as Collins Is in hospital and will not be able to fight again this year.
