BLACK JAPANESE RECORD
PA. AUCKLAND, This Day. "Since my return to New Zealand yesterday a number of people have asked me questions concerning the Japanese treatment of the Allies," said Captain C. W. McMillan, who has just returned from Singapore, where he represented the "Auckland Star." "Nothing that has been written exaggerates in any way'the cruel, vile, and vicious nature of the treacherous Japanese. If you had seen what I have seen you would revile the Japanese as long'as you live. Don't be misled because those who are returning now appear fit. Most of them have been through a living hell. They have responded marvellously to treatment, and are apt now to make light of their sufferings. There -is one matter comforting to the British people: the Japanese did not violate our womenfolk,- although they were as cruel to them as to the men. and humiliated them in a nauseating fashion, nor were they particularly harsh on the children."
