FOR BETTER WORLD

NATIONS MUST CO-OPERATE

LONDON, September 30.

In a farewell broadcast, Mr. S. M. Bruce, Australian High Commissioner, said he did not believe that the United Nations would allow a repetition of the tragic stories of the years between the wars.

Increased consumption and a restoration of production were the remedies for economic evils. Trade must be

expanded, purchasing power be increased, and the standard of living raised.

International co-operation was at the root of all betterment. It had won the war, and it would win the peace.

He called on the British people not to be dismayed. They had.stood alone in 1940 and had laid the foundations of victory, and if necessary they would stand alone again to lay the foundations for a happier and better world. He stressed the necessity for sacrifice and discipline. In the days of war they were imposed on the, people, and in the days of peace they would have to be self-imposed.
