HONEY MARKETING

END OF REGULATIONS

"It will not be necessary to continue the Honey Marketing Emergency Regulations for next season," said the Minister of Marketing (Mr. Roberts) today. "The ending of hostilities has eliminated the need for obtaining priority supplies for military forces, military hospitals, and patriotic and prisoner-of-war parcels, and when the 1945 season regulations expire on November 30 they will not be renewed." • •

The Internal Marketing Division would, however, continue to operate its honey blending and packing plant in Auckland on a voluntary basis as was operating prior to the war, and beekeepers in all parts of New Zealand would be at liberty to forward honey to the division, where it would be processed for local sale and export if snipping space were available to send it to Britain, said the Minister.

Mr. Roberts expressed his appreciation to the members of the beekeeping industry who had so willingly cooperated with the division in its endeavour to provide the necessary military priorities and limited civilian distribution, sometimes at no small inconvenience to themselves. The future of the honey industry in New Zealand, he said, depended on a continuation of orderly marketing both for local and export sales and the Internal Marketing Division would continue to provide its facilities in Auckland to that end.
