JAPANESE AUTHORITY

SUPPORT BY MOUNTBATTEN Jtec. 2 p,m. LONDON. Sept. 24. Admiral Mountbatten has instructed the Japanese forces in Java not to hand ever authority to any Java faction, says Renter's Singapore correspondent.

The Japanese still control Java, five weeks after the official surrender. Admiral Mountbatten. with his suddenly expanded commitments, has been unable to spread his forces in such time around the enormous areas of the Netherlands East Indies. SEAC is undertaking their occupation, as transport difficulties have prevented the Dutch moving troops to the Far East. No ban has been announced on movements into and out of Java, but it is believed the British and the Dutch wish at present to prevent such movement. -
