LEYBOURNE SPRINTS

DUNBAR GALLOPS WELL

(Special to "Tho Post.")

WANGANUI. This Day

Although an "off" morning, several good gallops were registered at Wanganui yesterday. The track was in good order, but a strong northerly wind faced the horses in the straight. Leybourne, with T. Webster in the saddle, slipped over half a mile in a tick over 51sec. Lily Ann, also ridden by her trainer, clocked Sl^sec. Vive la Veera took 55sec to cover the distance. Well Armed went a- mile and a quarter, the last four furlongs in 1.24. Behave was restricted to strong p,ace work over two rounds. The Guineas candidate moved scratchily at the start, but hit out freely when warmed up. Beau Jewel (K. Chote) went half a mile in sUsec. the first quarter in 25 'see. j , Dink's Own (Martinoyich) hit out attractively in a half-mile gallop, registering 50sec, the last three furlongs in 37£ sec. He got through his task in a style that points to him as likely to run prominently in the Moutoa Handicap. Lady Chips had Dunbar as a companion over five furlongs. The former was the pacemaker early, but Dunbar was doing the better at the end to clock 1.3 4-s—a very smart performance. Treasure Tee put an two rounds of pace work. He is very fit and was keen to go. A good working gallop was recorded by Soneri, the Bulandshar filly striding out attractively over half a mile. The Guineas candidate Gigli was given useful pace work, stretching out freely up the straight. The Defoe colt is in great heart, and what beats him in the classic will have to be good. ! Alright (G. Ivil) went out to run five furlongs at three-quarter pace. He stretched out very freely, and although under a good hold, clocked 1.4£, the i last three furlongs in 37£ sec. He, was j fairly wide out. so that it was a good effort. Parekura has been sent home to Hastings, a ligament having gone early lin the hurdle race last Saturday, and he is not likely to race again. G. Ivil will ride Light Fantastic, Behave, Alright, KilaVney Boy, and Hulabaloo. K. Chote will be on Lambro, Dawn Flight, and Master Francis. !
