SNOOKER CHAMPIONSHIP

The first series of matches in the Wellington amateur snooker championship, commenced on Monday night in the rooms of Billiards, Ltd., and being conducted under the auspices of the Wellington Billiards Association, resulted as follows: G. Benny beat E. L. Elvy, 104-65; W. H. Davis beat E. WBarnes, 91-72, and S. F. Dawson beat F. W. Dewhurst, 115-100. Last evening J. Hirini (St. George) beat B. D. Davies (St. George) after the latter had ■enjoyed a scoring advantage throughout and appeared a certain winner. Hirini, however, secured several snookers, and the last four balls to win 115-100.

E. M. Gold (Wellington Jewish Social Club) beat H. M. Dykes (Seatoun Bowling Club), 129-96. L. W. Waller (Petone Working Men's Club) cleared the table in making a four ball break, totalling 22 points, to defeat W. H. Tricklebank (Central) by 94-87.

Tonight, at 7 o'clock, S. Moses (C.P.O. Pastimes), ex-champion, will play F. Stewart (R.S.A.). At 8 p.m. R. Greig (Upper Hutt) will meet J. Muir (Time), and at 9 p.m. R. Rollinson (Federal Club) will play H. Paisley (Regent). ■
