Moscow radio said that the Russian commanders who directed operations against the Japanese have been awarded high honours in recognition of their military successes in the Far East. Marshal Vasilevsky has been award-: ed the Gold Star Medal for the second time and a bust of the marshal is being I erected at his birthplace. . Marshal Vassilevsky has ben award-.-ed the title of Hero of the Soviet Union and the accompanying Order of Lenin and the Gold Star. General Mere'tskov has received the Order of Victory.
