FOOD STOLEN FROM LIFEBOATS

P.A. AUCKLAND, Sepember 10. A few of the 20.000 Aucklanders who visited the merchant ship aircraftcarrier Empire Lagan at Western Wharf during the weekend stole a quantity of chocolate, beef extract, biscuits, and tinned milk from the ship's lifeboats. The food was in tins which could be opened with a key attached to the side. When an inspection was made it was found a number of tins had been opened and the contents taken. Linen and glasses were also unlawfully removed. All day again today there were Streams of visitors to the ship.
